Best Women Sports bra

The Best Women Sports Bra: Get The Support That You DeserveIs your sports bra due an upgrade?

So it’s that time of year again when you need to sort that beach body out and want to get back into exercising, Do You?

There is only so much jumping up and down that a woman can do without doing some damage to your chest area

Get Your Dirty Minds Out of The Gutter, I Meant Exercising!

Having a well supported and comfortable sports bra is your number 1 priority when buying a new one

So instead of you having to shop around trying to find the best place to buy sports bras

I have made it my mission to find the most supportive, comfortable, fairly cheap, and durable bra’s for exercising that you can find

Saving you time and money so that you can spend it down the gym or out for a run

So knowing how to choose a sports bra for comfort can really make exercising that much easier

OK, If you didn’t know already, I am Male

Well, I was last time I checked

And I know I am probably someone that you wouldn’t want to listen to but my wife has moaned enough about what should be important for a sports bra to work

Believe this or not ladies, but I have taken that on board (Yes, Us Men Do Listen Now And Then) and spent hours doing my own research and I think that I have come up with the perfect 10 sports bra’s.

ENJOY…

Women have it really tough compared to men when it comes to exercising with having to deal with their Breasts (not to sound vulgar) bouncing up and down.

As well as them hurting from exercising, you have to spend extra money just to get fit by buying a sports bra,

I’m not claiming that I am an expert in this field (I’m missing a couple of things to be an expert) but I have done my research into what should make it into my list of The breast… sorry… BEST sports bras

It can’t be easy being a woman in sports if you have even an average size chest let alone if you have more than a handfulA woman rugby player holding out her hands to catch a rugby ball

When you’re out jogging, playing football, or rugby…

Yes, gentlemen… Women do and can play football and rugby!

The last thing you want to worry about is getting a couple of black eyes from your breasts hitting you in the face while you are running.

They don’t only go up and down but they go left and right, in and out, clockwise, anti-clockwise

Sometimes they even go in different directions

Am I right girls?

And that can cause tissue damage and also back and breast pain which isn’t good.

Is This Fact or Fiction?

What do You Need From a Sports Bra?

Before I make a “TIT” of myself making another breast joke, let’s look into what makes a sports bra good enough for the women in our livesThe front of a red and black sports bra

  • Comfort
  • Padding
  • Support
  • The right fit
  • Padded straps
  • Elasticated back strap
  • Proper underwire

Obviously, the right fit is very important, you don’t want to squeeze your D cups into an A cup sports bra, do you?

I would imagine it would be like trying to get a jellyfish into a thimble.

You need to find one that is not to lose that they fall out and not too tight that you cut off your circulation, the cups, straps, and bands should be as follows.

  • Cups – You can do a stretch test by pulling on the top and bottom of each cup and the less give, the more control you will have of your puppies.  Then put on the bra and whichever type of sports bra you have the cup should hold the whole breast without any spilling out.
  • Straps – Get hold of the top of one strap and the centre of one of the cups and pull, the less stretchy the front straps, the more control they will give.
  • Bands – If you put a finger under the band by your chest you shouldn’t be able to pull it more than an inch if you can its too big for you.  Next, if you reach your arms above your head and the band rises up, it’s too big for you.

Before you ask…

No, I don’t have my own sports bra

The type of sports bra you need will depend on your size and the amount of exercising or sports you do so see below which type of sports bra you need

  • Low-Impact Sports Bras are made of thin material and look like a crop top but do give you the support you need if you are only walking, doing yoga, or stretching.
  • High-Impact Sports Bras tend to be made of less stretchy material and are great for energetic sports like football or rugby.A load of bras hanging on the washing line
  • Compression Sports Bras keep your breasts close to your body giving you maximum support if you are running.
  • Racerback Sports Bras are ideal for running or any repetitive movement sports reducing shoulder pressure and the added bonus of it never falling down.
  • Encapsulation Sports Bras give your breasts that feminine shape and give you maximum support.
  • Non-Wired Sports Bras are great for sensitive or developing breasts and still gives your breasts a great shape.
  • Under-Wired Sports Bras give extra support and shaping for bigger breasts, but make sure you get the right fit.
  • Padded Sports Bras have extra padding if you want to give them a bit of a boost or even to stop your nipples from freezing over.
  • Plus Size Sports Bras are for the fuller figured woman to get the support she needs.  They don’t have to look like “granny bras” in this day and age as there is some really designer looking ones on the market today.
  • Mastectomy Sports Bras can be bought to fit either pre or post op to give comfort and support.

So why don’t you get rid of your old sports bras (without burning them) and treat yourselves to a brand new one?

Hi there, great post and I had a few laughs too! As a female who does wear sports bras, the thing I find so frustrating is that they can be hard to wrestle your way into. Obviously they are designed to be a much firmer fit, but I thought the idea was to work up a sweat in the gym, not in the changing room! Anyway, another sports bra you could add to the list is the Shock Absorber S4490 Women’s Max Sports Bra Top – this looks pretty cool because it has two clasps at the back but still achieves the crossover effect for support. I guess the moral of the story is that one size definitely doesn’t fit all, All the best, cheers, Kaz

I can’t say I have ever tried to put a sports bra on but I can imagine its not that easy, thank you very much for letting me know about the shock absorber women’s max sports bra top, I shall definately be looking into that….I don’t mean literally though or I might get a slap from who ever is wearing bit at the time.lol
Thanks for popping by and all the best 🙂

Who knew there was so much science behind a sports bra. I can’t say I have much experience with the subject matter here. Sometimes it’s just good to be a guy, right? lol. Nice post.

Being a guy has its perks I guess, but being a woman has a couple more ?
It’s crazy how much thought goes into making these sports bras but they have to be comfortable and durable i suppose if woman are going to be doing any kind of sports

I liked your tips for how to find a good sports bra. I am always on the hunt for a supportive sports bra. I usually have to wear 2 sports bras when I workout because I do more high-intensity workouts and I just have a larger cup size. But I usually get the cheap sports bras and have 1 or 2 more expensive ones that are pricier/supportive. One thing I bought was a Booband which has been a game-changer for me. It’s a strap that goes over your sports bra and keeps your chest pushed down so they stay in place.

Reply

Hi kelli S I’m really pleased you liked this post. I cant imagine how much hard work it is to do any high intensity exercises if you have large breasts, and thanks for letting me know about the booband it’s something I could take a look at for my next post. Cheers

Thank you for all this info. It’s funny how you’re looking for a certain product and the internet ocean takes you to a better product you didn’t know exists.

Thank you also for linking to Amazon, it’s indeed the best place to get it.

My pleasure 🙂 I have often found myself in the same boat and then forgot what I went on the internet in the first place for. I’m really pleased you got lost and found your way to my post though 🙂

Not only did I get a few good chuckles reading your post but a couple of new ideas to search out sports bras. And Amazon is awesome as most are so expensive. Funny how getting one of these things on is an exercise in itself if the sizing is not right. I am sure you have never been stuck in a sports bra as you try to get the damn thing on, never mind trying to get it back off!!! It is more than a rigorous workout!
And finally, they are coming out with some awesome looking + sizes and like you said, not the ‘granny look’ that should be banished anyway. Great article, thank you. I am sure you had as much fun writing this as we have had reading it.

AS someone who used cheap sports bras until finally getting a good one in my early 30s, I can say HOLY COW there is a big difference. I’ll never go back to the cheapies, after experiencing real support and stability.

Thanks for the amusing post 🙂

You certainly need a sports bra that will last and feel comfortable, they might be more expensive but they are worth it

I couldn’t imagine having to wear a bra myself, it must be so uncomfortable!

I am not a sporty person myself so don’t wear sports bras, but my girls do when out walking or jogging.
Not sure what brand they wear. I would imagine that a good bra for an athlete must be better for the support and durability. I will be sure to tell my girls to read your post

I’ve been nowhere in stores for sports bra and here I found yours which perked my interest. Basing on your choices, I prefer the Regna X Racerback Sports bra because of its zipper front. Don’t you know that it’s hard to wear bras without locks or zippers? It’s hard to put on one like fitting a shirt. We need the locks to easily unlock and unzip so it would be easy to wear and off. I’m not sure if the makers of these bras understand that. Maybe they made some studies, but I myself can say it’s not easy to take on and off these kind of bras your showing, aside from the one I mentioned above.

Shwni

Everyone has got different opinions I suppose and that is why I tried to find the best of different styles of sports bras, The Regna Racerback Bra is a very well designed and made piece of women sports clothes so you wouldn’t, or shouldn’t should I say, have any issues with it should you want to buy it.

Well, I must say I THOROUGHLY enjoyed your article…the breast, sorry the best part of all was your light-hearted humor which made such a sensitive topic an easier ‘pill to swallow’. Great job.

You are so right on the money when it comes to support and not only for the sports arena, but even something as simple as walking – it can allow gravity to pull you down for sure – in more ways than one. SO, yes, I loved the low-impact bra you suggested.

As a matter of fact, I loved the way you dissected the whole ‘bra’ thing…a great read. Shwni. Keep it up.

This is really cool. My wife loves exercising but the only thing she can’t stand is her sports bra. Either it’s too tight and its pinching her skin when she is working out or its loose for her to do her workout.

She have tried tons of different sports bras from cheap ones all the way to the expensive ones, but still she hasn’t found that right one yet. So I am glad that I came across this article because it is exactly what I was looking for. I am definitely sending this link to my wife. Great article, very helpful.

hehe … great article.  I love wearing sports bra but hate the struggle of taking them off.  But I see that one of the styles featured has a zipper in the front.  I think that would eliminate the problem that I have, no?  Fantastic!

I used to be measured when I go to one of those boutique shops to buy my bras.  Do they measure you for sports bras as well?  I’m sure your measurements in normal bras would be the same in sports ones, no?

These sports bras would be online so if you see one you like them I would get measured first then buy one here as the discount on sports bras is pretty great here

Bwahahaha, I love your tongue-in-cheek style. You turned boring bra shopping into such fun. And you really found an incredible variety of Sports bras. THANK YOU!

Clearly, I’ve been out of the fitness loop for too long because the only brand name I recognised was Nike. But… you’re right, I’ve just got back into Yoga and Pilates and my old sports bra is rather old and tight so its time to go shopping.

I live in South Africa though, so I’ll have to get them here (postage takes waaay too long). I’ll go check if our stores sell your no. 1 recommendation – those Vermilion Birds sound awesome and the price is not bad either.  If not, I’ll be back to buy through your link.

Hello Shwni,

I appreciate your tips on buying sports bras.  To me sports bras are the best if you get the right fit. For comfort I prefer them over regular bras.  On the down side,  even when you have the right fit, they are not the easiest to get into to.  For that reason I have a couple of the Regna X Racerback Sports Bra with the front zipper and several similar to the BAOMOSI Racerback Sports Bras.

I still love them all though because I get so much good support across my upper back.

Happy Holidays!

I used to be in need of an extra supportive sports bra when I had my breast implants.  My size was a DD and it was impossible to find a sports bra or bikini top that fit me well.  I was explanted due to medical issues so now I am a size B and it is much easier to find tops to fit me.

I do agree with you and I think that Champion and Nike brand have the best sports bras.  They have the best yoga pants too.  Maybe you can do an article on yoga pants next?

Thank you for your insight!

Interesting, I laughed a little haha because yeah, it must be uncomfortable to play some sports as a woman. If it is too tight or too loose they can be uncomfortable, I guess. I will tell my mom to take a look at these because she plays volleyball and is always complaining about that. It is so much easier that someone like you does his research for them to get them the best bras for sports, my mom doesn’t like to spend hours looking for the best options, she has a lot of other things to do, but if someone takes the time to do it for her, it is certainly useful and will want to visit your site, because volleyball is very important for her, and if she will play more comfortably, well, she’s going to like it, I’ll let her know, thanks

My wife and I recently started a martial arts class and she said afterwards that she needed to get a proper sports bra. We tried our local sports shop but they had very little choice and the staff weren’t much more knowledgeable than me.

I realize from this review that women need to protect themselves when exercising or playing sports, just like men do. I obviously didn’t know how to test these sports bras for the correct one. You made it very simple with your explanation on how to choose the correct fitting sports bra that gives support, comfort, and most of all fits your budget.
